520 homes, offices and hotel plan at previously proposed arena site
Councillors approved the hybrid application for the long-derelict former diesel depot site beside Bristol Temple Meads, marking a major step forward for the previously proposed arena site in the city. The Zaha Hadid Architects-designed masterplan will bring forward up to 520 homes, two office buildings, retail and flexible commercial space, plus a 164-room hotel with conference facilities. The scheme also includes a new public square and walking and cycling links. Temple Island sits in the heart of the wider Temple Quarter regeneration zone and is seen as a key piece in Bristol’s push to deliver thousands of homes and jobs around the station. L&G said the approval was a “critical step” towards unlocking the vacant site and delivering new homes, offices, public space and hotel uses beside Temple Meads. The consent covers a mix of detailed and outline approval across eight buildings, including one office block and associated public realm in detail, with the rest of the scheme reserved for later phases. The site will also need remediation and infrastructure works before building work starts. L&G can now move on with enabling works and reserved matters packages to bring the later phases forward.
