Builder/owner Tax credit qualifications? stephenr | Posted in General Questions on April 4, 2026 09:03am Hello, I am doing my taxes.  I am nearly complete with my house (new construction, three year project) and I spent a lot of money on doors, windows, insulation and a heat pump this year.  After doing some research I am starting to realize that I qualify for NONE of the tax credits available.  This is because it is not an existing home, my house has not gone through the Energy Star certification process and my heat pump is not geothermal (air).  Is there a path to claiming some of these expenses on my taxes that I am perhaps not aware of?
