concrete-panel / non-foam ~ICF: (“Rasta”, “Durisol”, etc) no_added_formaldehyde | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on April 8, 2026 02:09pm I’m interested in ICF’s for our ~1500sqft daylight basement foundation (Idaho @ ~5000ft, IECC zone 6). However, we’re in fire country and the likelihood we’ll see wildfire surrounding our home is essentially 100% looking out the life of the structure – which we are attempting to design to have a “100 year life”, on the basis that realistic lifespan is the single most effective way to control total footprint.  The combination of these two has lead us to all mineral wool for the exterior insulation. We will be implementing fire-wise near the structure, but can’t control some of the adjacent parcels, and it’s likely we could see significant ember cast and radiant heat on one side.  A conventional formed wall w/ exterior rockwool is an option, and probably what we’ll settle on if the choice is EPS ICF’s – and perhaps this is what the market is telling us to do: As best I can tell, there is very little distribution or even use in localized areas – of non-foam (or less foam) insulated concrete wall forming systems.   There is no mention at all of Rasta on GBA, and only passing mentions of Durisol.  Last I heard about AAC (Autoclaved aerated concrete panels – likely more expensive than either of the preceding) it wasn’t doing well and the USA plant was “tbd/for sale”. Has anyone gone through, or had formal quotes, for any product th...
