A major step in the construction of three industrial buildings totalling 519,576 sq. ft. on the former Universal Oil Products (UOP) property in Des Plaines was taken at Monday night’s city council meeting. Aldermen unanimously approved measures that will consolidate two existing lots into one on the north side of Algonquin Road east of Mount Prospect Road, and make two lots into one on the south side of Algonquin. Each new lot will total between 16 and 18.8 acres. With the approvals, the owner of the acreage, Seefried Properties, can take the next step to move forward with plans to construct one large industrial facility north of Algonquin and two buildings to the south. A 260,400 sq. ft. building will be constructed to the north and two buildings, 152,820 and 106,756 sq. ft. south of Algonquin. Seefried is developing the buildings on speculation meaning, tenants have not been signed up. The property is across from the new Vetter pharmaceutical development now under construction. UOP offices will stay on the remaining 3/4ths of the total property. Three existing buildings on the property north and south of Algonquin have or are currently undergoing demolition.
