By Annemarie Mannion Photo courtesy of Wichita State University A 45-year-old construction worker died after falling 60 ft from the Wichita Biomedical Campus being built in downtown Wichita.  April 3, 2026 A 45-year-old construction worker died after falling 60 ft from scaffolding at the $300-million Wichita Biomedical Campus under construction in downtown Wichita.The worker, who has been identified as David Rodriguez, was employed by Midwest Drywall. He fell seven stories at about 11 a.m. on Mar. 30, and was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to local news reports. Midwest Drywall, which halted work on the project at English and Topeka streets, provided a statement to the media saying that it “is heartbroken to confirm that a member of our team passed away following an incident today at a construction site in downtown Wichita.”   JE Dunn Construction and Hutton, a joint venture, is the general contractor on the nine-story, 350,000-sq-ft project. “An employee of Midwest Drywall and a trade partner on the project, passed away after a fall on the jobsite. Safety is our first priority on our jobsites, and we will participate in a complete investigation into this incident,” JE Dunn said in a...
