About this article

1,687 ex-staff win payout of more than £9m

The Employment Tribunal ruling has been shared with the Enquirer showing a victory for 1,687 ex-ISG staff. The former employees have been successful in their Protective Award claims worth up to £5,600 each – more than £9m in total. The tribunal ruled in their favour because ISG failed in its legal duty to consult collectively about proposed redundancies. The payout will be financed by any money left following the failure of ISG with the balance being made up by the government’s Redundancy Payment Service. The majority of the workers were represented by specialist CFS Redundancy Payments. Consultant James Lewis said: “We’re really pleased to have secured a successful outcome in this case for former ISG employees, particularly given the scale and the fact that many were initially unaware they had a valid claim. “CFS Redundancy Payments represented over 90% of the claimants and handled the process from client engagement through to the tribunal, ensuring those affected are able to access the compensation they were entitled to. “Employees do have rights in these situations, and we’re proud to have helped such a large group achieve a positive result.”
