St Helens Primary project targets net zero in operation
The job has been awarded to Galliford Try Building North East and Yorkshire by the Department for Education and the Northern Lightings Learning Trust. The Headland-based school caters for 374 pupils, including additional resourced provision for 25 young people with Special Educational Needs. The replacement two-storey building will be delivered as a cost pilot with the DfE to test best practice and drive value through the School Rebuilding Programme. Designed to meet Net Zero Carbon in Operation standards, the scheme will use passive design principles to cut energy demand and trim long-term running costs. Facilities will include new infant and junior classrooms, dedicated SEND space, a main hall, library, nursery and staffroom, alongside hard and soft play areas and on-site parking. Completion is targeted for Summer 2027.
