£30m-turnover engineering specialist joins group as AMP8 spending ramps up
The Leeds-based firm said the deal strengthens delivery capability across water, environmental and wider infrastructure markets as AMP8 spending ramps up. The five-year cycle is worth around £100bn, roughly double the previous round, and is expected to drive a surge in upgrade and resilience work. Sutton-in-Ashfield-based ESG turns over about £30m and employs around 180 staff, lifting NG Bailey’s workforce to more than 3,600. Founded in 1989, the group centres on ECS Engineering Services and includes businesses spanning M&E, specialist steel and composite fabrication, civils and advanced water control products. Clients include the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, Anglian Water, Welsh Water and Yorkshire Water. ESG will continue trading under existing brands with its management team staying in place. Chief executive Jonathan Stockton said: “The acquisition provides a natural extension to our existing range of services and strengthens both our market positions, whilst opening up new growth opportunities for us in key areas including water infrastructure.” He added ESG’s track record, including work on the Colwick Sluice refurbishment, would further boost the group’s capability.
