Non-power tool to shave down raised edges on OSB subfloor etting | Posted in General Questions on February 20, 2026 03:07pm My OSB subfloor was exposed to some rain before I got it dried in, and many edges are raised around 1/8″. I’m about to install laminate flooring, and I need to shave those edges down. My electric planer worked, but I got covered head to toe in dust, just doing one small room, and I really don’t want to do it again. I expect a sander would also kick up a ton of dust. My inexpensive hand plane would take forever. I don’t need the smoothness of a plane; fairly rough is okay. Is there a non-power tool that can shave the OSB edges down reasonably quickly, even if roughly? Would a wide chisel work, or might it catch too much of the OSB and cut too deep? I thought of something like an ice chopper, with a long handle, sharpened in the middle inch or two and dull farther out to keep it from digging in too deeply or widely. I also thought about using a block of wood and a hand sledge to pound the edges back down, but I have no idea whether that would work or keep them down. Any suggestions?
