Oshkosh showcases robotics technology for construction, sanitation at CES
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Oshkosh Corporation is displaying new robotics and automation technology at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, showcasing systems designed to assist with construction, waste collection and airport operations. The Wisconsin-based industrial technology company demonstrated several autonomous solutions aimed at addressing labor shortages and improving safety in challenging work environments.Autonomous waste collection systemOne system allows residents to request trash pickup through a mobile app. The autonomous collector, called “HARR-E,” travels directly to homes to collect waste bins.“Through an app, you can call ‘HARR-E’ to collect your trash — so you don’t have to store bins in your garage. It comes right to your door, so you don’t have to carry it down,” said Bryan Brandt, chief marketing officer of Oshkosh Corporation. “That’s great for neighborhoods because you won’t have large refuse trucks driving in and out; the trucks just go to a central depot where Harry is unloaded.”Construction roboticsThe company also displayed a welding robot mounted on a boom lift system. The technology allows welding work to be performed at elevation without requiring workers to operate at height.“You don’t need people working at height — the system performs the work at elevation,” Brandt said. When asked about worker safety, Brandt said the system keeps employees on the ground while monitoring the automated work above.“You don’t have to be up in the air — you can sta...
