Reinforcement needed?

I found a couple of cracks in a garage ceiling joist that I thought should be reinforced. What would be sufficient to fix this? The (2x4?) joist is 20’ long, and the cracks are 4’ (right) & 5.5’ (left) from the end. Additionally there is a huge gap in another joist, I don’t know if anything needs to be done about that?
