The Illinois Laborers’ and Contractors Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program hosted students from 10 regional high schools as part of its Construction Craft Preparation Program. Vienna High School serves as the administrative site and also has students participating. Students worked alongside a local contractor to pour concrete, applying classroom skills in a real-world setting. The project emphasized teamwork, problem-solving and technical skills while giving students exposure to careers in the construction industry. School officials said the program is designed to prepare students for jobs in skilled trades by combining classroom instruction with hands-on training. Instructor Todd Goforth said the experience allowed students to work in an actual job setting and apply skills learned at the training center. Program leaders said opportunities like the project help students build practical skills while contributing to improvements in their community.
