Wall Assembly Review – Zone 5 Steve2132 | Posted in General Questions on February 13, 2026 08:49am Hello Everyone, First let me say I have really enjoyed the content here and the Q&A’s.I realize a good amount of my wall assembly considerations have been covered but I wanted to throw out there where I am at and get opinions because I am not dead set yet. I am in Zone 5 (SW Michigan). Below is what I am thinking. Outside to in:-Vinyl siding-Vertical rainscreen furring strips-2″ Polyiso foam board-7/16″ zip sheathing-R-21 unfaced batt insulation (2×6 studs)-Drywall-Latex paint Now my Q’s:-First any glaring issues with this assembly? -Is it recommended to add a textured drainage plane between the zip and the exterior foam? -Should I use foil faced polyiso? Open to other changes/ideas. I am owner building this and trying to balance cost and labor while working toward a decent wall assembly.
